 Today, we read an article and completed an assignment about colorism in India and the repercussions of it. We read about one woman's experience with colorism in India, and how she faced prejudice because of her dark skin, and advised by others to use skin-lightening creams. We also read about how media and society often only portray lighter-skinned individuals in films, commercials, TV, etc., and that this can cause self-esteem issues within the youth. I liked learning that steps have been made to reduce the rampant colorism in India, such as large corporations like Unilever removing colorist terminology from it's products. Today, I'm feeling glad to live in a very diverse city in a very diverse school, with a lot of representation.

Wednesday 2/5/25 - What is the most challenging part of writing an essay for you? Is it brainstorming, organizing ideas, writing a strong thesis, or something else? How do you plan to overcome this challenge?

The most challenging part of writing an essay for me is organizing my ideas to create a strong argument or narrative. When tasked with a prompt, I can brainstorm ideas relatively quickly and gain a rough idea for the direction I will take my essay in, but making a detailed outline and structure with my brainstormed ideas is the most difficult part, and usually takes the most time. I plan on overcoming this challenge by working my argument backwards. What I mean by this is instead of using various ideas and arguments to create one strong supported claim, I will do it in reverse by finding a strong, defensible thesis, and building around it with evidence and support. This way, I can be sure of the direction of my essay, without having to go back and change things or even change my claim, making the process more efficient. Absent this day.

Friday 2/7/25 - It's Super Bowl weekend! Some people watch the Super Bowl for football, others for the commercials, and some just for the halftime show. What’s your favorite part of big events like this, and why?

Prompt: My favorite part of watching the Super Bowl is usually the half-time show. This is the case with most people as viewership during the show skyrockets. My favorite part of big events like this are the performances because it's a grand spectacle or art and showmanship that everyone can enjoy. Additionally, it gets viewers excited again and amped to watch the second half of the game. My favorite part after the halftime show would be the actual game, then the commercials after that. Summary: Today, we chose a prompt to write an essay about regarding "The Color Purple" by Alice Walker. Afterwards, we worked on step 1 of the essay making process by brainstorming. We looked at an example of how to brainstorm our essay, with the teacher detailing the process regarding a prompt about changes in gender roles. Friday 4/25/25 - How do you find time to enjoy your day, even when you have a lot going on? Write about at least three specific things you do to enjoy small moments throughout your day.

I find time to enjoy my day with doing simple things that can alleviate any negative feelings. These include going outside and doing some kind of quick activity whether it's walking, riding a bike, or playing with a ball with a friend or sibling. I find I can find time to enjoy my day even when I'm really busy or have a lot going on by socializing or having a quick talk with a friend that is completely casual and not related to work or school. Last not but least, whenever I feel overwhelmed, and want to feel solice and like I have time, I just write down how I'm feeling, and what I have to do exactly. This way, I can block my time to do what I need to, and leisurely time, as well as go about ways to alleviate any negative feelings I may have.
