Friday 2/7/25 - It's Super Bowl weekend! Some people watch the Super Bowl for football, others for the commercials, and some just for the halftime show. What’s your favorite part of big events like this, and why?

Prompt: My favorite part of watching the Super Bowl is usually the half-time show. This is the case with most people as viewership during the show skyrockets. My favorite part of big events like this are the performances because it's a grand spectacle or art and showmanship that everyone can enjoy. Additionally, it gets viewers excited again and amped to watch the second half of the game. My favorite part after the halftime show would be the actual game, then the commercials after that.

Summary: Today, we chose a prompt to write an essay about regarding "The Color Purple" by Alice Walker. Afterwards, we worked on step 1 of the essay making process by brainstorming. We looked at an example of how to brainstorm our essay, with the teacher detailing the process regarding a prompt about changes in gender roles.

Reflection: I learned that it's easier and usually more efficient to write the body paragraphs of you essay first, and the introduction afterwards because the hook, relevant information, and thesis can all be based on the information laid out in the body paragraphs.

 Today, we read an article about the dangers of using Google for self-diagnosis, as well as the best ways in which to get medical information being a doctor. Additionally, we completed a short quiz, and wrote a constructed response about the article. I learned that oftentimes health websites are not trying to provide the most accurate information to the reader, but rather boost sales through advertisement of certain products or treatments. I liked reading this article because I, myself in the past have found myself doing similar things, such as Googling my symptoms for a possible diagnosis, even though I know better now, it gives me something to look back on. Thursday 10/10/24

Today, we took our final test on "Fences" by August Wilson. It was a lot of questions (45) but the questions weren't that hard, and I got a 91. I learned that I got 4 questions wrong out of 45. I liked that how each character in the story represented certain ideals or morals, such as Bono with loyalty and Troy with hard work. I feel like today is Friday, because the different block schedule messed up my perception of the week.

Monday 11/18/24

 Today, we were introduced into a new project, where we were randomly assigned new group members. We were introduced to a story called "A Devoted Son" by Anita Desai, and we read a short background about her life. My group chose the theme of isolation vs. community. I learned that Desai's life and family was caught in the crosshairs of the timeframe of Indian modernization after it gained independence. I found it interesting how she described hiding her profession from her children. I'm feeling ready to get adjusted into my new group and work on the project.
